Overview: Summer Staff serve as the hands and feet of CrossView’s Summer Camp Ministry. Summer Staff “wear many hats:” minister, lead, teach, counsel, facilitate recreation, serve food, clean, act, sing, dance, and through it all…reach-out with the life-changing truth of God’s word.
Summer Staff Qualifications:
- Christian: demonstrate a strong and evident personal relationship with the Lord.
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the Summer or have graduated from High School
- Exhibit leadership skills, maturity, responsibility, and the capacity to put others first.
- Possess the ability to work effectively with children, youth, and peers.
- Possess the ability to work well as an individual, with a team, follow instructions, and take initiative.
- Commit to upholding CrossView Christian Camp’s statement of faith, core values, camp rules, and culture points.
- Available to commit to the whole summer schedule.

Camp Counselors
- There are 8 Counselor Roles total (4 male, 4 female)
- CrossView Counselors receive a week of special training in order to effectively engage, instruct, and build relationships with at-risk children from low-income households.
- Strengths: patience, kindness, gentleness, joyfulness, self-control, perseverance, goodness, faithfulness, love, service, hospitality, discernment, discretion, good communication skills, and a willing attitude.
- Roles & duties of a CrossView Counselor: counsel troubled children, teach life skills, guide with kindness, lead small group Bible studies, lead recreational activities that involve an evangelism component, clean camp buildings, serve food at mealtimes, carry out routine camp chores, execute camp maintenance and grounds projects as needed, participate in campfire skits, lead by example during worship sessions, work well with a partner and/or in a team setting.
- Counselors are paired with a co-counselor and are both in charge of 9 campers together. Counselors live in the Camper Cabins with their co-counselor, 9 campers, and the occasional additional Volunteer Counselor.
- Counselors coordinate with their co-counselor to keep their Camper Team on schedule, engaged with activities, and ensure that everyone stays safe, supervised, and abiding by camp rules.
- Ability to work long hours in the great outdoors while maintaining a high-energy and fun environment for the CrossView Campers.
Recreation Staff
- CrossView hires two Recreation Staff per Summer.
- Recreation Staff must be CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certified (cost covered by CrossView).
- Recreation Staff receive a week of training in order to effectively and safely set-up, facilitate, and take-down all CrossView recreation activities.
- Strengths: strength, flexibility, endurance, resilience, initiative, punctuality, independence, trouble-shooter, diligence, confidence, organization, time management, and teaching/training skills.
- Must be able to work long hours in the summer heat.
- Good stewards of all CrossView recreation supplies and equipment.
- Carry out routine daily and weekly camp chores.
- Engage in end-of-the-week cleaning.
- Serves food at mealtimes, sets up for campfires, keeps water jugs filled up all around camp throughout the day, and serves nightly snacks.
- Engages in silly songs, worship time, morning devos, nightly team meetings, acts in camp skits, and aids counselors in facilitating Bible studies and curriculum teachings.
Camp Cook
- Strengths: Responsibility, Time-Management, Independence, Organization, Resilience, Punctual, Service, Hospitality, Endurance, and Good Communication.
- Cooks all camp meals and prepares all camp snacks while strictly adhering to Texas Health Department codes.
- Must be Food Handler certified (CrossView covers cost).
- Must be able to rise early and work long hours.
- Leadership skills and ability to lead and guide Junior Staff and Summer Staff in the kitchen and dining hall with kindness and patience.
- Good steward of kitchen equipment, supplies, and ingredients.
- Keep an eye on kitchen supply and ingredient inventory.
- Maintains a clean kitchen and dining hall throughout the day and camp week.
- Actively engages in camp activities outside of the kitchen when time permits.
- Deep cleans the kitchen at the end of each camp week and “ramps down” the kitchen and dining hall at the end of the Summer.
